QuadTech to unveil industry firsts at ICE Europe 2011, ensuring lean, high-performance package printing

Press control technology leader's precision inspection, spectral color measurement and data management solutions showcased at European edition of International Converting Exhibition.

Sussex, Wisconsin, USA—20 October, 2011—Under the theme of 'Moving You Forward' at ICE Europe 2011 (Munich, Germany, 8-10 November 2011), QuadTech (stand B5 1029) will show how its automated press control technology is the key to lean, precision quality in package printing.

QuadTech will unveil two innovations never before seen in the industry: a new method for stabilizing film in-line, enabling accurate color measurement at full press speeds; and a new 2500 dpi high resolution dot-viewing capability that allows operators to view abnormalities such as pin-holing, bridging, doughnuts, and halos—on the running press.

QuadTech’s current product range covers register guidance, image-based spectral color measurement, web inspection and print-data management. These products are specially designed to meet requirements in all package print situations, including flexible packaging, corrugated, folding carton or labels. The inspection technology uses line-scan cameras to compare each print repeat against a “golden template,” the printed copy considered to be as close to perfect as possible. QuadTech’s equipment identifies a range of package print-related defects faster and more reliably than is possible by human means, eliminating the risk of waste or the need for re-runs.

Product Details

The Autotron™ 2600 with ClearLogic™ Register Guidance System is a color-to-color system that features specialized solid-state scanning heads that can detect a wide range of pale and low-contrast marks, thus ensuring complete control regardless of substrate, ink, or printing technique.

The QuadTech Inspection System inspects the entire substrate in-line during printing, laminating and rewinding. Inspecting the entire substrate width 100% of the time instead of scanning small sample areas, the QuadTech Inspection System achieves total defect detection with the press or laminator running uninterrupted at normal production speeds.

QuadTech SpectralCam
The QuadTech SpectralCam™ delivers L*a*b*
data for precise, cost-effective color
management— in the image, in-line,
on paper or film substrates.

QuadTech SpectralCam
QuadTech's optional high-resolution view of
dot structure enables operators to quickly
identify any issues.

The Inspection System with SpectralCam™ combines true 100% inspection with advanced color measurement in a single system. The system assures continuous, in-line monitoring of most web-fed package materials, including unsupported transparent, translucent and opaque film  substrates in addition to paper. The SpectralCam camera calculates accurate L*a*b*, ΔE and ΔDensity values at maximum press speeds. Its true 31 bin spectrophotometer technology measures up to 72 color targets within the work, and provides far greater color accuracy than existing 3-channel RGB-based systems.

The PDF Verification program makes structural comparisons between the golden template and the customer-approved digital artwork file. This is a fail-safe means of ensuring the correct content is being printed.

The stand-alone Color Measurement System with SpectralCam™ provides fast, accurate color measurement on the running press. Smart spectrophotometer technology enables the system to quickly detect and analyze colorimetric and density variations from pre-determined targets. The system has been enhanced with an optional high resolution dot viewing capability, which allows press operators to view dot reproduction and structure while the press is running.

The QuadTech Web Viewing System, for all web-fed applications, provides a high-resolution ‘freeze-frame’ view of web sections, so defects can be analyzed while the inspection system continues scanning the web.

Data Central® for Inspection is a database for logging and analysis of defects and press performance, and roll editing for downstream control with the Waste Management System. Data Central generates easily accessible reports that provide instant overviews of current or historical performance, allowing fast pin-pointing and remedy of production problems.

The Waste Management System uses print inspection and process information to perfect your waste removal processes. Dependable, quick, and accurate, the Waste Management System keeps waste out of your customers’ hands and excess costs out of your operating budget.

Karl Fritchen, President of QuadTech, comments: “In the current highly competitive and uncertain economic environment, printers have an increasing need to improve margins and reduce waste. Our response has been to accelerate product development and provide a first-class support network, so customers can fulfill their own future plans and move forward.”
