QuadTech to Unveil New QuadTech® Newspaper Color Control System with AccuCam™ at Drupa 2008

An Innovative In-The-Work Solution for Newspapers and Semi-Commercial Printers

Sussex, WI--29 May 2008--With an eye toward the future of newspaper printing, QuadTech, Inc. today announced it will exhibit its new QuadTech® Newspaper Color Control System with AccuCam™ at Drupa 2008 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The new state-of-the-art technology promises to address several needs facing today’s newspaper and semi-commercial printers, including the ability to meet the demand for color advertising.

Television, magazines and the Internet are competing with newspapers for advertising dollars and consumer attention. While most newspapers have the ability to print color, they are now increasing color capacity in their printing plants so they can increase advertising profits.

“In order to compete with these other media forms, newspapers must add value to their advertising offering by improving color quality and consistency,” said Karl Fritchen, President of QuadTech.  “For that reason, QuadTech is proud to offer our new Newspaper Color Control System with AccuCam.”

The AccuCam is an image-based color control system that utilizes closed-loop control to produce superior color and increase reliability, thereby reducing advertiser rebates and enabling newspaper printers to compete for semi-commercial work.  The AccuCam uses a proprietary 6-channel spectral sensor with LED lighting that promises reduced maintenance.

Moreover, because newspaper printers are often not permitted to print color bars or gray bars, the AccuCam eliminates the need for bars by using image-based color control, granting newspapers prized additional ad space.

Finally, the Newspaper Color Control System with AccuCam is designed to work with the network-based ICON™ integrated software platform which enables operators to run automated press controls from a single, centralized station.  This easy-to-use system is designed to be used by any level of operator, meaning less experienced operators can be just as productive as more skilled, senior operators – increasing the overall efficiency of the plant.

QuadTech’s printing heritage as part of Quad/Graphics provides it with the unmatched experience and knowledge to meet the demands of the newspaper and semi-commercial printing industry.

“QuadTech’s credible professionals are dedicated to the success of our customers,” said Fritchen.  “Our engineers strive to develop efficient, cost-effective products like the AccuCam that are further backed by our dependable support team.”
