QuadTech Equipment at Bliss Communications

Sussex, WI--May 2007--Bliss Communications, headquartered in Janesville, Wisconsin, USA, has invested in a QuadTech® Register Guidance System with MultiCam® and a QuadTech® Ribbon Control System with MultiCam®. The systems, which will be integrated through the QuadTech® ICON™ platform, will be installed on the company’s KBA Comet in 2007.

Bliss Communications is a multimedia company, owning a range of newspaper titles, including its flagship title, The Janesville Gazette (circulation 24,961) and several radio stations. Until recently the printing division focused on its newspaper titles. However, with the installation of the QuadTech equipment it is looking to expand into the area of commercial printing.

Chuck Flynn, Vice President and Technical Director, Bliss Communications, comments, “Many newspaper printing companies are undertaking commercial work as the cost of newsprint rises. Consequently, this sector has become very competitive. We expect that our new QuadTech press controls will help us compete for commercial printing business that we couldn’t handle before.”

Quality control is a key factor in attracting new commercial business, and pivotal in keeping waste newspaper copies to a minimum. Flynn predicts the QuadTech press controls will help significantly. “The QuadTech equipment will automatically hold register throughout the run. Not only will this make us more productive by reducing waste copies, it will also free up our press staff. The ICON platform integrates control for all the QuadTech systems on to one easy-to-use screen. This means that operators can pay more attention to other quality aspects of the press run, such as ink level adjustments.”

The reputation of QuadTech contributed significantly to Bliss Communications’ decision to invest for the first time in QuadTech equipment. Flynn concludes, “QuadTech has been a market leader for many years and its products are tried and tested. It also has an outstanding reputation for after sales care. This gives us the combination of performance and support we are seeking to take us into our new printing operation.”
