Dome Printing Works Towards “Lights Out” With QuadTech

Sussex, WI--March 2007--Dome Printing, based in Sacramento, California, USA, has invested in the QuadTech® Register Guidance System with MultiCam®, the QuadTech® Ribbon Control System with MultiCam® and the QuadTech® Color Control System, all integrated through the QuadTech® ICON™ platform. The equipment was bought to help reduce waste and move the company towards a “lights out” pressroom – where the presses are fully automated and able to run unattended 24/7.

Andy Poole, Vice President of Manufacturing, Dome Printing, comments, “We are always interested in new technology and see the advancement towards the “lights out” ideal as achievable with QuadTech.”

Installed on the company’s M110 press in November 2006, Dome has already noticed the difference the equipment is making. Poole confirms, “We have seen up to a 50% decrease in makeready times, significantly raising levels of productivity.”

“The ICON platform completely integrates the systems. This further boosts productivity by reducing the number of operators required to work the press, freeing them to apply their skills to other areas.”

The company keeps its finger on the pulse of market trends, and purchased the equipment in response to the boom in direct mail. Poole elaborates, “We recognize that high quality direct mail is the future, and we invested in the QuadTech equipment with this in mind. The systems will ensure that color and register on long runs are consistent hour after hour.”

Dome is a long-term QuadTech customer, and this helped in its decision to invest in QuadTech once again. “QuadTech shares our philosophy of innovation and pushing technology to its limits. It is extremely proactive in its after sales service and keeps in regular touch, ensuring that any important issues are addressed immediately.”

Dome is a one-stop shop, whose services include pre-press, web and sheetfed printing, binding (including perfect binding and saddle stitching), mailing and logistics fulfillment operations. One of the West Coast’s most established privately held printers, the company was founded as Dome Engraving in 1917. The family run business was bought in 1969 by Ray and Arlene Poole and became Dome Printing. Today the family business continues under the leadership of Tim, Andy and Robert Poole.
