QuadTech at IfraExpo 2006

Sussex, WI--September 2006--QuadTech will be taking part in this year’s IfraExpo October 9-12 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Visitors to the QuadTech stand, 1220, will be able to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the show and enjoy QuadTech hospitality, meet like-minded industry professionals, and learn about QuadTech’s powerful portfolio of ancillary press controls for newspapers.

“For Newspapers, QuadTech ancillary press control products address the growing demand for higher quality print and color on every page,” states Patrick Avery, Director of Sales and Marketing. “The waste levels on a large newspaper press are exaggerated by the complexity of setting up multiple printing towers, by adding high levels of automation to the operation of newspaper presses we are able to offer both quality and workflow improvements to our customers. This not only positively impacts productivity and performance, but can also make a dramatic impact on the operating profits of the business.”

Visitors to the stand will be able to speak to QuadTech personnel and learn more about the company’s products and how they could help their business.

Web and Ribbon Register
The QuadTech® Register Guidance System with MultiCam® and QuadTech® Ribbon Control System with MultiCam® provide advanced register control for newspaper presses.

The sophisticated performance centers on the MultiCam® camera which is designed specifically for the job in hand, rather than using ‘off-the-shelf’ imaging technology. Using the ultra-fast MultiCam® camera, which searches for register marks over a wider area of the web than most competitive products, the system can identify and collect register information from a wide array of patterns, including micro-sized marks that can be as small as 0.36 mm (0.014 in). These patterns are used to maintain circumferential, lateral and folder registration at web speeds up to 17.8 m/sec (3,500 ft/min).

It can also scan the entire cylinder circumference without compromising system performance, maintaining sight of register marks even during periods of maximum register upset, such as at a reel splice.

To reduce trim waste, MultiCam® sensors recognize marks in an area of circumferential white space as small as 5.08 mm (0.2 in) increasing the printable area of the web.

This technology makes MultiCam® sensors unique, and, when combined with QuadTech’s proven control algorithms, deliver a solution that is fast, accurate and reliable. The two MultiCam®-based products can be purchased separately or integrated together to provide total control of web register from reelstand to folder for both coldset and heatset applications.

Integrated controls—ICON™

QuadTech’s ICON™ platform is key to making printing presses as efficient as possible:

Easier press operation—ICON™ allows all QuadTech products mounted on a press to be driven by a single touch screen. This multi-function operation ensures the optimum use of installed hardware and reduces training cycles.

Reduced job changeover times—ICON™ is QuadTech’s interface to digital job tickets, minimizing set-up times for both new jobs and re-runs.

Connectivity—ICON™ provides an open interface to many press control architectures, enabling ‘plug-and-play’ compatibility and a high level of control.

The ICON™ platform provides a new roadmap for the future. With its open architecture, it provides complete integration of ancillary press systems both now and in the future. In this way, printers will be able to eliminate errors and minimize variations in their printing processes.
