Web Offset Champion Group Hosts Best Practice Seminar in Tokyo

Sussex, WI--April 2006--A “Best Practice Seminar” jointly organised by WOCG members QuadTech and MAN Roland has been hailed a huge success.

The seminar was the WOCG’s first venture into the Japanese market, and attracted more than 100 attendees from print media groups across the country.

Randy Freeman, Vice President of Business Development at QuadTech comments, “This event reinforces QuadTech’s dedication to the print industry in the Asia Pacific region. Japan has a particularly vibrant commercial printing market, with growing interest in standardization and best practices. Our promotion of best practice techniques and methods will help printers to increase profitability and performance, giving them a competitive edge.”

The WOCG is a group of 10 industry companies, including QuadTech that offers advice in specific areas of web offset printing. The group was founded in 1998 to “champion” best practice. The aim was to improve productivity, quality and safety within the industry by forming a symposium of the very best expertise in web offset printing. The group publishes guides in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Chinese.

Randy comments, “I opened the conference with an overview of the WOCG, explaining the purpose of the Web Offset Champion Group as well as ’best practice’ and ’best practice guidelines’.”

The keynote speaker was Mr. Daniel Wuergler of System Brunner, QuadTech’s partner in the production of QuadTech® Instrument Flight®. He built his presentation around the WOCG guide How to Achieve Color Rapidly and Maintain it Through the Run. He covered color contrast theory, the challenges of reproducing color accurately and the need for standardization, measurement and control and best practices in proofing, platemaking and on press.

The seminar also featured presentations from industry leaders such as Gen Nakayama, Senior Manager of DIC-MAN Roland’s Web Department; Juro Fukai, Manager of Media Technology’s Strategy Division; Kurata Yasushi, of Nippon MacDermid, and Colin Morris, MD of MEGTEC UK.
